Guards! Guards!

by Sir Terry Pratchett

adapted by Stephen Briggs

Director: Nicola Dawson assisted by Rob Smith

Producer:  Bridget Flett

Tacchi Morris Arts Centre

8th – 14th March 2026

Step into the chaotic magic of Ankh-Morpork with Terry Pratchett’s “Guards! Guards!”:  riotous stage adventure where dragons, misfit heroes, and razor-sharp satire collide.

Adapted by Stephen Briggs, this theatrical gem brings Pratchett’s beloved Discworld to life with dazzling wit and irresistible charm. Follow the bumbling yet brave City Watch, led by the grizzled Captain Vimes and idealistic newcomer Carrot, as they battle a secret society threatening to upend the city with the aid of a certain fire-breathing creature. With clever dialogue, eccentric characters, and a plot that skewers fantasy tropes while celebrating them, “Guards! Guards!” is a hilarious and heartfelt spectacle for fans and newcomers alike. Whether you're a Discworld devotee or simply craving a night of laughter and imagination, this play promises a crackling good time.

"The Bear" is a classic one act comedy by one of the world's great playwrights.

The setting is the Russian country home of Madame Popova in 1888.

Madame Popova is determined to mourn for her dead husband forever.  She flatly rejects pleas from her servant,

Luka, to go out and start meeting people again. However, Popova has recently discovered that her husband was unfaithful and she is in fact angry, confused and conflicted.  A gruff landowner, Smirnov, arrives and tells Popova that her husband owed him money. He demands immediate repayment.  Rapid fire dialogue leads to tempers flaring. In the end the argument reaches such a pitch that the couple decide that the only way to settle things is to fight a duel with pistols!
